Not-for-profit energy company Our Power expanding across the UK

OUR POWER, a Scotland-based ethical energy provider will expand the reach of its work to tackle fuel poverty with a new UK-wide tariff.

The 100 per cent green energy tariff, +IMPACT, aims to offer more affordable energy prices for low income households.

On average, the tariff is around £80 cheaper than the Big Six’s default tariffs, and it is estimated that for every new household which switches, a low income household will be able to heat their home for addition 54 days.

Founding chief executive at Our Power Dawn Muspratt commented: “Fuel poverty is a real issue for around 4m people in the UK. Our Power’s aim is to make energy fairer and more accessible for all.

“Over the past two years we have presented a sustainable alternative to traditional energy providers in the Scottish market, offering fairer tariffs and helping people out of fuel poverty.  We are delighted to now be in the position to bring our services to the wider market.

“We anticipate interest in +IMPACT to be strong and hope to secure thousands of ethically-minded energy customers on the new tariff by the end of 2018.”

Our Power was established in 2016 and works with 58 social housing providers, community organisations and local authorities as members, and supplies energy to around 21,000 households.

The social enterprise aims to reduce fuel poverty by providing customers the choice of a cheaper, ethical supplier, and by offering one price regardless of how people choose to pay.

Muspratt continued: “We also look forward to extending Our Power membership to housing associations operating outside Scotland, giving the wider sector the opportunity to benefit from our services and drive further positive change.

“For example, the money raised from growing Our Power, and more specifically, +IMPACT, will be used to reduce the level of fuel poverty and reduce unemployment in our communities.”
