CommonSocial: What you need to know about our new network

CommonSpace editor Angela Haggerty explains the sign-up process for our new network

I'M absolutely delighted that we now have CommonSocial, Scotland's grassroots social network, up and running.

If you're not sure what it is, there's some great coverage in The National and over on Bella Caledonia explaining more, but basically it's a social media forum for people in Scotland who want to discuss and organise around the issues that really matter to them. It’s free to join and open to all.

It's part of CommonSpace, and you can use both from this very platform. It's very slick, you just switch back and forth between the two.

To get started, register an account on CommonSpace. There's a link to do this on the homepage.

Then, once you're logged in, you'll see your name on the right hand side of the homepage. Click on it for the option to go to CommonSocial. The first time you do that, you'll be prompted to log in again, but you only have to do it once, from then on you can move freely between CommonSpace and CommonSocial using that same button.

One important thing: at the moment, the site will ask you for your username, not your email address, and password when you log in, so make sure you're logging in with that. We've got this on the list to update it so that you can use either your username or your password in future.

Once you're in to CommonSocial, you can start exploring and connecting with other uses and spaces.

We've put together a quick tutorial video to help guide you around.

With such an ambitious project, we expect some users might have some teething troubles to begin with, so please get in touch with us and let us help you iron out any problems. Drop an email to me on angela@common.scot and our web developer, Daniel, on daniel@common.scot.

We're also really keen for feedback, so don't hesitate to let us know what you think of CommonSocial.

I hope you're all enjoying it so far and getting to grips with the features. This is a truly unique platform and we're very excited about the potential it has.
