Paul Emmerson QC has been the latest leading figure to step down from the independent inquiry into how public bodies deal with child sex abuse, leading to increased frustration among survivors groups. The inquiry, established by the UK Government in 2014, has seen a slew of high-profile resignations, including by its chairwoman Baroness Butler-Sloss.

The Scottish Government has written to UK Home Secretary Amber Rudd to ask her to re-commit the UK to Europol, the Europe wide policing agency. The UK’s membership of the outfit, which pools information on international crime, expires at the end of 2016. The UK has not stated wether or not it wishes to continue its membership.
