#Council17: Labour lose overall control of Glasgow city council
End of an era as Labour party loses full control for the first time in 40 years
SCOTTISH LABOUR has lost overall control of Glasgow City Council (GCC) as the first results were declared today (Friday 5 April) in the Scottish local elections.
The council elections campaign had seen the SNP looking to replace Labour as GGC’s biggest party.
Labour has held power in the city since 1980 but there were early signs of the loss of that political power as the first few wards were declared.
